5 Great Places to Train in Kingston
Get outdoors and make the most of these fantastic, free local spaces to get 2016 off to a flyer!
1. Canbury Gardens
Lots of people already run through this tranquil riverside setting, but not so many stop to enjoy its flat grass space, tarmac paths and various trees and benches to attach your training kit to. Also has pay-and-display tennis courts and a covered bandstand (and a great pub, but that's not what we're here for just now...)
2. Richmond Park
A Mecca for runners and cyclists alike, this huge park has everything - great views, changes of gradient and direction, deer roaming free, and much more. Use the steeper sections for some punishing interval sprints, or choose a loop that suits your goals and take in the scenery.
3. Bushy Park
Arguably Richmond Park's less appreciated cousin, head here for open space, flat paths and grassy areas as well as fresh air and quiet. Use the fallen trees and anything else you find for a great full body session of jumping, climbing, and anything else you can think of! Functional fitness in its best form.
4. Alexandra Rec
Mix in some sport to your workouts with tennis and basketball courts on offer. Plenty of grass space too to add in some bodyweight exercises, sprints or functional exercises if you have access to kettlebells, sandbags, tyres... the possibilities are endless.
5. Fairfield Rec
A stone's throw from Kingston town centre, head here for football, cricket, and outdoor fitness of any kind. There's some equipment installed around the edge of the rec, and being so close to the town there's no excuse not to balance out a stressful day with an hour's exercise and fresh air!
