What happens when a police career ends?

We want to know: in your force, whether it's through retirement, ill health or injury or simply resignation, what support is offered to leavers, to you?

  • If there isn't any - shameful.

  • If it's half a day on where to invest your pension - not good enough.

  • If it's telling you to become a civilian investigator because that's all there is - not good enough.

  • If it's outdated "advice" with no credibility or innovation - not good enough.

Sadly, these are some of the options that are still be offered to most serving officers, which is why I wrote our 2-day, CPD-accredited resettlement course specifically for the emergency services. It contains all the strategies gained in my years of personal experience as well as years of successfully finding people their "next move" after policing. It's coaching; really getting to know the person and their skills, not telling people what to do and ticking boxes, because everyone's different. We help you find out what you want to do and give you options that will work for you. If you're an HR, wellbeing or OH lead, a Fed Rep or anyone else with responsibility for equipping leavers, please make sure you do one thing today - speak to me to find out how you can invest as little as £100 per person to actually support people properly at a crucial time in their lives. If you don't think that's a good investment, you're part of the problem, frankly. Let's recognise people's skills and service with quality support.
